Video and audio tools and platforms supplement conventional text-based forms of communication, and put them in the hands of everyone. So, we increasingly have affordable and ubiquitous tools to help us communicate and enrich engaging narratives. We now need a new generation of leaders to put these tools to good use.

These are my personal learning tools, and are ordered according to Harold Jarche’s Seek-Sense-Share models, as ways to find answers, to process them, and to share for feedback: Google Search is my go-to tool when I come across something I haven’t heard of. Slack is another tool I use with some groups to stay in touch.

Top 100 Tools for Learning poll. All of mine fall in the latter category, because my performance support tools are productivity tools! So here’re my votes, FWIW: Google Search is, of course, still my top tool. Skype is a tool I use for communicating with folks to get things done, but also to have conversations (e.g. Word is my go-to writing tool, and while I use Pages at times too (e.g. Keynote is my presentation creating tool.

Mail: email is still a major tool for getting pointers, staying in touch, asking questions, etc. A different tool for the same purpose. What tools do you use? What are Conversation Searches? I often present around my Information Radar tools and methods, particularly my use of an RSS Reader. During those presentations, I'll mention what are sometimes called "vanity searches." These searches look for any mention of your name, company, URLs across blogs and other sites. For me, these searches primarily allow me to see what people are saying in response to something that I've put out there.
