A New Website, Part Six - Drupal Modules

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

Modules A module is some additional programming that gives your site some additional functionality. A number of optional modules come installed with the original Drupal download. In addition, you can get many more modules from the Drupal web site. The first step, then, is to look at the list of modules that comes with the Drupal download. So I select 'Site Building' -> 'Modules'. Aggregator The Aggregator is an RSS aggregator.

My 25 Years of Ed Tech

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

1998 – Wikis Also: CMSs, RSS I didn't bother with Wikis. Instead, for me, 1998 was the year of RSS and content syndication. I did a lot of work with RSS, combining it with content management systems (CMS). Martin Weller has released his book 25 Years of Ed Tech today.

A New Website, Part Eleven - Content Construction

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

First of all, how do define events: I needed to decide between the ' Calendar ' module and the 'CCK' module. How about the Calendar module? First I had to find it - once again, Drupal's awful search made what should have been a one-minute job a ten minute exercise in frustration. I don't understand the thinking behind the module pages in Drupal. And why doesn't the 'support forum' link to a module-specific support forum?

A New Website, Part Seven - Converting The Data

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

My website is a pretty complex website and it doesn't really map easily to what Drupal (or any other CMS) does. This is a bit tricky because my website includes both harvested content from Edu_RSS and generated content such as my articles and posts. Tricky, but not impossible, for as we have seen Drupal also has an RSS aggregator. Edu_RSS content will be managed separately from my own website content. Installation for modules in Drupal seems straightforward.

My Moodle Test

Xyleme

I didn’t believe it myself, so I did the following Google search: “Moodle and standards.” Its 18 months old, so I did a quick search of the Moodle forums to see what the status of the SCORM export feature is today. SCORM is only one of 12 standard learning modules in Moodle. Through our clients I can directly see the importance of SCORM and other standards for learning, especially as the scope and complexity of projects increase. Home About Podcasts Videos Xyleme Inc.

A New Website, Part Two - Choosing Drupal

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

But I run a large and complex site, one which would be impossible to maintain merely by creating and uploading HTML files (even simple blogging websites are too complicated to maintain this way - sure, you could learn how to do it pretty easily, but then you'd be doing a lot of extra work every time you created a new post). A slow language means a slow CMS; a complex language means a complex CMS. The Drupal modules.

E-Learning Generations

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

Theprocess of connecting was involved and complex, requiring the use of modems andspecial software. Second, it created the idea that these content modules orchunks were sharable. Innovators moved on and began to tryradical new technologies like RSS and AJAX, Twitter and Technorati. The providers of search and document management services - Yahoo,Microsoft, Apple and Google - have their own social networks, but these arealso-rans.

The Future of Online Learning: Ten Years On

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

Simple devices – from the One Laptop Per Child computer to the Asus Eee to the Nokia internet tablet to Apple’s iPhone now allow people to run complex software with very simple devices. Often user interaction is provided – the user might type a term into a search widget, for example – and often some form of processing is requested at the remote website. A test-only system is a coarse system of measurement for a complex achievement.

Bev Trayner on 24 Nov 2008 at 6:36 am Nancy, when I did a Master’s degree in Development Studies – over 20 years ago, there was a compulsory module on women (“girls&# ) where we saw that research has been showing all this for a long time. This is complex and your caution reminds us not to oversimplify it. rua, Laura and Nancy, I have always believed that this is a complex issue – not new to me, but complex!

A New Website, Part Five - Basic Drupal Configuration

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

It took me a lot longer because my installation is quite a bit more complex - I am installing Drupal to manage several websites at once. My topics (which you can view , for now, on my current website) are based on predefined searches using regular expressions. RSS Publishing This defines the RSS feed, which is now standard in Drupal. Modules I'll cover this in Part Six.
