On my 3rd Twitter birthday: 7 reasons Twitter is central to my life

Ross Dawson

Earlier today I noticed it’s three years since my life on Twitter began. It now seems strange to me that I was such a late starter compared to many other connected folk, given that Twitter is now so central to my life. The primary reason I held off getting started on Twitter was that I felt that my blog was my primary space for content sharing, and I didn’t want to divide my limited spare attention across platforms. I now know that blogs and Twitter are highly complementary.

Twitter Is Where Conversations Go To Die

Luis Suarez

Twitter has now become, once again, another messaging board system, like a good bunch of them out there of the once so-called social networking sites. What Twitter did, to use companies like Seesmic to grow and now killing them with their new API rules, is evil.

@Janetter or How I Started to Enjoy Twitter Once Again

Luis Suarez

There used to be a time when I was very much in love with Twitter. But then, after a short while, I started hating Twitter. Over the course of just a few weeks Twitter managed to destroy, in a very pernicious manner, not only the overall user experience, but the entire ecosystem as well that made it a success in the first place: Third party apps. It was through my good friend Rachel Happe that I first heard (Of course, on Twitter!)

Activity Streams

An activity stream is a mash-up of an individual’s or organization’s feeds. For example, my FriendFeed pages show activity from this blog, the Internet Time Blog, my Flickr account, bookmarks I put on Delicious, and my entries from Twitter.

What I’ve learned in my first week of a dual-layer MOOC (DALMOOC)

George Siemens

In the process, I’ve used roughly any tool I can get my hands on, including Second Life, Twitter, Facebook, G+, Netvibes, blogs, Wikispaces, Diigo, and so on. Do the same with social media (our G+ and Facebook pages as well as the #DALMOOC twitter timeline).

Reflections on Twitter and social networking

Clark Quinn

I’ve been using Twitter for a number of weeks now, and that, combined with several recent social networking activities prompted this reflection. Twitter is a different story; described as micro-blogging, it’s more immediate, more a pointer. I’ve seen it mostly as a job hunt tool (consequently, more for others than myself, e.g. to support people I know who are on a job search), but he’s leveraging it as an expertise tool.

Top 10 Tools for Learning 2016

Clark Quinn

So here’re my votes, FWIW: Google Search is, of course, still my top tool. Twitter is a go-to. The learning chats I participate in are another way twitter helps. Some are ‘content’, some are social media, some are personal representational tools, but reading and talking with others and representing my own thinking are major learning activities for me. It’s that time again: Jane Hart is running her 2016 (and 10th!)

PKM as pre-curation

Harold Jarche

The most important part of personal knowledge management (PKM), in my opinion, is the need for active sense-making. One strength of PKM is the “manual” nature of sense-making activities. The knowledge gained from PKM is an emergent property of all its activities.

Google Plus – One Social Networking Tool to Rule Them All

Luis Suarez

So in the end employee profiles, blogs, social bookmarks, files, activities, wikis and communities (And now Forums) became all integrated into a single point of entry: Connections itself. And, finally, the single one I feel would be the most threatened of them all: Twitter.

Innovation in open online courses

George Siemens

The connection between learning and application is hampered as MOOC resources do not always persist after a course has ended and there is limited search functionality in MOOCs. As such, learners will be encouraged to participate in roughly any space they would like: blogs, facebook, twitter, edX discussion forums, etc. Another social layer is the inclusion of group work using synchronous chat activities supported by intelligent conversational agents.

The best learning of my life

George Siemens

Some are active throughout the course (though when I did an analysis on CCK08, only a few of the most active participants in week 1 were still in the top ten by week 12), some have spurts of activity, and others subscribe to the daily but don’t engage in ways that are visible to us as facilitators. Consistently, as the course progresses, active participation declines. I’m currently involved in three open online courses: Change , CCK12 , and LAK12.

Peeragogy

My workscape could include participating in a community of field technicians, looking things up on a search engine, and living in France for three months. Provide a single, simple, all-in-one interface, like that provided by Google for search.
