Video Lessons

Clark Quinn

So, I’ve been creating a ‘deeper elearning’ course for one of the video course providers. But to do this, I had to do some serious learning about creating video. My mentor/colleague/friend showed me (by video chat) his elegant setup. Of course, he’s been doing video for decades. And that’s my error, too, since I have video anxiety almost as bad as my phone anxiety, and dragged my heels until things were too late.

I haven’t done much with video (though I did just do this <6 minute one about my proposed learning pedagogy), but I’ve found the ‘narrated presentation’ capability built into Keynote to be of interest, so I’ve been playing with it. Video is to photographs as photographs are to text. If you’re introducing a new product at British Telecom, instead of developing and distributing an introductory course, you take a brief video of someone explaining it with your pocket videocam and upload it to a server for all to see. If you’re in sixth grade, you might make a video in lieu of writing a one-page paper. Buying video gear these days reminds me of buying PCs at the end of the last century.

Why Don’t You Have an Internal YouTube Video Sharing Service?

Dan Pontefract

The average user spends 15 minutes each day viewing videos. Sure, much of the content on YouTube may be coming from traditional media (clips of TV shows or movies, music videos, commercials, etc.) We have passed the so-called tipping point of online video sharing and viewing. There is also the perceived security issue concerning videos being stored on the cloud for some CIO’s, etc. you can easily develop a video sharing system embedded into the platform.

Here’s an excerpt: There’s a pedagogy to this arrangement, and it’s clearly making a case for a certain kind of engagement with the cinema and with film history.

Dorsal striatum has also been implicated in addictive behavior and it may be that the 'adrenaline rush' of fast-paced video gaming is not so far from the truth in the dorsal striatum. Video game play was more predictive of surgical skills than years of training or number of operations performed (that's pretty amazing).
