Using wikis or Google Documents means that everyone can see what the others have contributed. I was able to look at the revision history of the wiki and show that they had not even contributed on those issues. I now take for granted my online personal knowledge management processes, such as social bookmarking; blogging and tweeting, but these habits make online collaboration much, much easier.

Web 2.0 Tools in the Enterprise

where he talks about some of the issues with blogs within the enterprise and ends with: Wikis seem to have less baggage attached to them and that might partially (and only partially) explain their recent rise in use within the enterprise. I'd also suggest that part of the reason that I always suggest that Wikis will get faster uptake than things like Blogs and Social Bookmarking is that Wikis can be a better replacement for something else without much behavior change.

First Thoughts After ASTD Sessions

Generally people were familiar with what a Wiki was, but few had ever edited a Wiki page or seen it done. Almost no one was familiar with social bookmarking. Oh, and I just saw that Kevin Jones posted his thoughts around the session: TK08 - Tony Karrer and Implementation of Social Learning. People did not offer up as many examples of where they'd like to use Blogs, Wikis, Social Bookmarking as I anticipated.

2) How do you sale to the NON-Gen Y's and Millennials who are in upper management who fear things like wiki's? Yammer (internal twittering) is almost impossible to explain to someone who has no experience with any social networking (and probably not with anything more than email lists). My suggestion is that you don't really try to sell Yammer or a Wiki or any other kind of tool. Social bookmarking and wikis are often a smart replacement with obvious side benefits.
