The most important part of personal knowledge management (PKM), in my opinion, is the need for active sense-making. Sense-making, or placing information into context, is where the real personal value of PKM lies. Merely tagging an article does not create knowledge.

Most people are too busy managing in the industrial/information age workplace and have no slack to try to learn how work in the network age. I strongly suggest that the first step of starting to work out loud, as part of personal knowledge management, has to be as simple as possible.

On the information finding/sharing path, some tools I use include: Google – like everyone else, I’m all over searching. My ITA colleague Jane Hart regularly collects the top 100 learning tools via contributions from lots of folks.

Do a search for "drop the e" elearning and you'll get 74 results, but there are literally thousands more out there. Take a look back at my post: More on Personal Learning Environments. And I would say the concepts of Personal Knowledge Management , personal information management , Performance Support tools, ePerformance, Productivity Systems, etc. Basically, if you had coaches or good managers, they would be doing this in an ad hoc fashion.
