A New Website, Part Six - Drupal Modules

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

Modules A module is some additional programming that gives your site some additional functionality. A number of optional modules come installed with the original Drupal download. In addition, you can get many more modules from the Drupal web site. The first step, then, is to look at the list of modules that comes with the Drupal download. So I select 'Site Building' -> 'Modules'. So I activate the module. This will happen for every module.

The Organization Needs to Ask Itself Tough Questions to Survive

Dan Pontefract

It’s my personal opinion that the word leader should denote and be applied to everyone in an organization. Every single person must play a leadership role in today’s organization. Or, have they made a mistake in joining the organization?

3 Ways to Increase the Effectiveness of Online Training Courses with an LMS

If an organization’s eLearning modules are missing the mark, there is plenty company leaders can do improve them using an LMS. Implementing an eLearning program is a significant financial investment, but it’s worth the money when online training courses are effective.

from training to learning

Harold Jarche

Whatever learning needs to happen for getting work done at the front line — on production floors, in sales, or in customer service — often is not generated, or even recognized as needed, by the training organizations.

What's Interesting

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

We have a new organization and a new manager, and one of the questions we as staff are being asked is "what's interesting?" with responses to be at least one sentence and less than one page. This is my submission.

Building a Culture of Continuous Learning

Charles Jennings

To achieve these three targets, we need to think out of the traditional learning and development box – beyond the class/course and eLearning module approaches towards embedding a culture where learning becomes recognised as occurring within the workflow. Most people get it.

Learning by Osmosis

Dan Pontefract

I liken learning in an organization to osmosis. In my book, Flat Army: Creating a Connected and Engaged Organization (Wiley, 2013) I define ‘Pervasive Learning’ as: learning at the speed of need through formal, informal and social learning modalities.

A ship without sails: Why single source is integral to blended learning

Where should L&D organizations look for inspiration? Embracing blended learning modalities: Organizations leverage Web-based delivery through online modules and social collaboration resources through which peers, SMEs, and learners all connect.

Module 190

The Standalone LMS is Dead

Dan Pontefract

Those organizations (and frankly public learning institutions) that are clinging to their standalone learning management systems as a way in which to serve up formal ILT course schedules and eLearning are absolutely missing the big picture. Sadly, there are too many organizations like this out there. When you hear people say ‘we need Facebook for the organization’ … I don’t think that’s exactly what they mean.

4 Online Learning Trends That Will Impact the Future of Corporate Learning

When learning is done on the cloud, or online, organizations have tools at their disposal that can be used to cater to many different types of learners (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, and more). When you think of the word “trend,” what images come to mind?

Economic structural change is NOT industry compositional change

Perhaps the best frame to understand the nature of structural change is the rapid rise of the “modular economy”, in which value is created in smaller and smaller modules over time. I am currently preparing a number of keynotes for senior business audiences over coming weeks.

The Only Person Who Behaves Sensibly Is My Tailor

We measure how many people have attended a class or completed an eLearning module, or read a document or engaged in a job swap or in a coaching relationship. Attending a course or completing an eLearning module tells us little apart from the fact that some activity occurred.

What is the future of the Learning & Development department?

Ross Dawson

This is a brief description of my presentation: Challenges for organizations are mounting from intense global competition, empowered consumers, and generational shifts. This session will use a rich array of examples to look at: • The driving forces shaping learning in organizations. What the successful organizations of the future will look like. They will ensure that these kinds interactions become intrinsic to how the organization functions.

Managing Multiple Learning Managment Systems - The High Cost of Choice

In this environment of too much choice, the buying decision is complex and drawn out, and the unintended result is that learning organizations often end up implementing more than one LMS. The Consequences So what happens when organizations have multiple LMSs to manage?

I don't understand the thinking behind the module pages in Drupal. And why doesn't the 'support forum' link to a module-specific support forum? Given that 'calendar' requires the 'views' module, but not 'CCK', I conclude that calendar data cannot be associated with the other type of data I want to create.
