Why I, Too, Killed My LinkedIn Account

Back in the day, when I was just getting started with my early days around social computing evangelism, I must confess that I used to think that people who didn’t have a social profile in all of the major social networking tools out there just didn’t get it. Is that the main reason why I then went ahead and deleted my LinkedIn profile for good over a week ago? Is it time to think smarter about how we make use of these social networking tools?

Last week LinkedIn reached a significant milestone: 100 million users. On the occasion LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman sent out an email to the first 100,000 users thanking them for being early adopters. You can look it up yourself in your LinkedIn profile URL; it is the number after “id=”. LinkedIn seemed to me to be one of the most promising newcomers.
