Two days ago I attended the 3D Teaching, Learning, & Collaboration conference, organized by Tony O’Driscoll. Tony talked about his new book with Karl Kapp, Chuck Hamilton spoke on lessons learned through IBM’s invovlement in Virtual Worlds, Koreen Olbrish chaired a panel with a number of great case studies, to name just a few of the great opportunities. The revelation for me, however, was linking the social informal learning with virtual worlds.

I also was intrigued to see Microsoft showing the Fuse team rather then SharePoint. One of the questions I was asking was about tracking the potential benefits of social media in the enterprise, particularly the outcomes of informal learning: rate of problem solving, products and services generated, etc. Last October I toured the expo associated with O’Reilly’s Web 2.0 Conference, and had the chance again this week. Somehow, it didn’t feel as vibrant.
