The making of meaning event (2)

Dave Snowden

This has been something that has been growing for some time as an idea, but the need has been accentuated by recent events on a world stage. There will be a public event to explore this in March and that event will also get us to the point where we can finalise the programme. The event is worth running in its own right and I’m exciting by some of the faculty we are attracting to it. The post The making of meaning event (2) appeared first on Cognitive Edge.

Oh and there will be a chance to explore Mountains of the area on the weekend before the event for those interested. The post The making of meaning event (1) appeared first on Cognitive Edge. Yesterday’s post on bullying at work struck a cord with a lot of readers. Lots of interest in doing something so I will plan to set up an open access narrative database on this in the fairly near future. If interested in that then please comment on that post or click on the email link.

Work Stream #4 – Speaking at Client Events

Luis Suarez

I guess there is another kind of unexpected thrill around freelancing that I didn’t think would be possible before, and yet it’s been one of the most rewarding I can relate to from my nearly three years long journey as an independent adviser on Social Business and Digital Transformation: speaking at clients’ events. That’s exactly how I feel about speaking at client events and why I treasure them to bits.

JAC 2012 – Joint Alumni Conference Event Highlights

Luis Suarez

As you may have seen from my recent live tweeting from over the last couple of days, I am returning back home from Zurich, Switzerland, one of my favourite European cities, after having presented at, and attended, the excellent Joint Alumni Conference 2012 event on what I think has been one of the most inspiring events that I have attended in a while. Luis Suarez Live Tweeting Highlights from #jac12 Event, Zurich, September 2012 from Luis Suarez.

Gotta Share! – The Ultimate Conference Event Experience

Luis Suarez

Once again, like I have been doing for the last few years, I keep wondering whether events organisers would take into account some of these various different suggestions, helping us all progress further into what ( social) conferences should be like. Conference Events Enterprise2.0

Social Business Forum Highlights – Reinventing Conference Events

Luis Suarez

As mentioned in previous blog posts, here I am, once again, putting together this particular series of articles detailing some of the various highlights from the recent Social Business Forum event held in Milan, Italy, on June 8th, that I attended and presented at. I mean, what are the chances of meeting up the same group of smart, talented folks at another tech event like that one? Well, the Social Business Forum event allowed for plenty of that and so much more!

Lean & Complexity event

Dave Snowden

As a part of preparing for this I have doing some specific work on methods which will see a first airing at the event. I'm looking forward to my keynote at the Lean Software & Systems conference in Long Beach California from May 3rd to 6th this year. I also have a whole day workshop on the application of CAS to Lean concepts which will pick up on AGILE and SCRUM.

[2b2k] Events are not the facts

David Weinberger

Events happen, and events have meaning, which means they only show up from a point of view. The Tunisian newspaper Tunis Afrique Presse ran a story on the four priorities announced by that country’s new prime minister. It’s a straightforward story, and it is told in a factual, straightforward way. But now I want to understand it. I know that some of the people involved in the revolution were disappointed that the new government was so Islamist.

Zurich for the LAS event

Dave Snowden

Net result a sleepless night but I had to be in time to walk down to the conference venue and deliver a keynote on Complexity to 5th Lean, Agile & Scrum event. I have been developing a theme around these events of late using the complex domain model (latest version up soon) which argues that most projects, including Scrums and development projects in general wait too long to start and remain linear, albeit over a short cycle time.

More on European UX Events

Adaptive Path

I did not mention UXCamp Europe , but that event attracted 400 attendees last May and plans are forming for next year’s event. I was fortunate enough to attend 3 UX events in the last month. Having been part of the conference team for the first three editions of this event, I know the organizers try to be inclusive and will sometimes prefer a wider geographical coverage of Europe over pure quality (which is a good goal!).

How technology is transforming events

Trends in the Living Networks

One of my speaking bureau just asked me to provide them with a few quick ideas on how technology is changing events, as one of their key clients is having an internal meeting to discuss their future use of technology in events. Before events: - Connecting with speakers and others attendees. Identifying who you’d like to catch up with at the event. Sharing content relevant to the event. Questions and discussion during events. Suggestions for next events.

Building Complex Events

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

A complex event is one consisting of many parts. A conference is an example of a complex event: there may be one conference, but there are many individual sessions. Online Events Daily supports complex events. event:identifier - each event has its own identifier.

People, Events and Ideas

Harold Jarche

Average minds discuss events. Using Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote, I think that events and people are important in helping us come up with new ideas but they are merely grist for our cognitive mills. “ Great minds discuss ideas.

KM Word: Capstone event

Dave Snowden

We experimented this year with a capstone event to bring together the various learning. As ever ritual dissent was well received and people appeared to enjoy the event. An odd feeling at KM World today as its the last time in San Jose, next year its going to Washington. The right decision, but I will miss the annual trip, especially as I now know the light rail system backwards.

Race Against the Machine: Upcoming Events

Andy McAfee

Here’s a rundown of recent and upcoming events: Earlier today I was on Warren Olney’s show “ To the Point , ” which comes out of KCRW in LA. I promise I’ll eventually stop promoting our new book Race Against the Machine , but there’s a lot going on these days. And I’m tickled that it’s getting talked about at both ends of the political spectrum: Mother Jones to the AEI.

Disconnected events, a common theme

Dave Snowden

An event which caused protest at the time, including yours truly as a teenager. John Jenkins and his followers attempted to bomb the event. No one that I knew supported the bombers but no one wanted the event to take place. The theme of justice permeated today.

My all-time favorite learning event

Jay Cross

Every year for the last six, I have flown to Seattle to attend Gnomedex , far and away my favorite and most powerful learning event. This year’s Gnomedex, the tenth, is the last of the series, so I thought it appropriate to examine what has made the event so damned good.

Shhh… Jay attends “secretive” event

Jay Cross

You must know someone in the so-called club to get invited—conference organizers change annually and the event is not promoted. The event was invitation-only but hardly secretive, as more than 500 photos on Flickr will attest.
