Creating the Connectivist Course

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

So the form was not something we designed and implemented, at least, not explicitly so. It was a bit of Old Home Week for me, as Manitoba’s first-ever online course was also offered through the CAE program, Introduction to Instruction , designed by Conrad Albertson and myself, and offered by Shirley Chapman. What made CCK08 different was that we both decided at the outset that it would be designed along explicitly connectivist lines, whatever those were.

Learning in the Digital Age: The Reality and the Myth

We project our thoughts, our ideas, our beliefs, our features onto the chaos. I remember the RSS standards wars of the late `80s, early `90s. RSS was a syndication format and there were too many different flavours of RSS. Then after that we had RSS and Atom, two different standards. Then somebody said, "Let's create one standard that will bridge the gap between RSS and Atom." Let me tell you story of the great bear.
