How to be an elearning expert

Clark Quinn

So here’s one take on how to be an elearning expert. Cathy Moore has Action Mapping, Harold Jarche has PKM, Con Gottfredson has the 5 moments of need, and so on. Know learning, know design, know engagement, know tech. So that’s my take on how to be an elearning expert.

eLearning Innovation 2010 – Top 30

Tony Karrer

I had an interesting conversation the other day about whether there’s that much new going on in eLearning here in 2010. I tend to work on things that are a bit leading edge like Data Driven performance solutions or eLearning Startups or the next great idea that someone has. In the world of eLearning, I generally pay attention to other innovators. These are often bloggers as exemplified by the great bloggers found via eLearning Learning. eLearning Technology.

Managing Learning?

Charles Jennings

In a world where the majority of learning is in the workflow and most of it is ‘informal’ (self-directed or undirected in the moment of need), the idea of pouring large amounts of your organisation’s L&D budget into a concept and technology that was designed to make easier the scheduling of courses and programmes is not a sensible one to take. Harold Jarche has written extensively on PKM and you can download his PKM Whitepaper from here.

Harold Jarche

For learning professionals, it is important to design tests that can validate competency. This is an overlooked area of instructional design as too much effort is spent on delivering content, in my opinion. Another rule that we had in military training, though not always followed, was to design the proficiency test before developing any training.

Curation trumps creation

Clark Quinn

We’ve seen the need to revisit the principles of learning design because despite the pleas that “we know this stuff already”, there are still too many bad elearning courses out there. The new mantra is Personal Knowledge Mastery , and while that’s for the individual, there’s a role for L&D here too: practicing ‘representative knowledge mastery’, as well as fostering PKM for the workforce. design strategy
