Here are some of the things I learned via Twitter this past week. I modified my use of Twitter favourites for my Friday’s Finds selection this week. I switched my social bookmarking service from Delicious to Diigo and noticed that Diigo offered a method to save my favourites automatically. Five surprising changes in 2010 by @lemire. I think that much of the establishment is greatly underestimating the amplitude and significance of these changes.

The little Bitly image had changed, and the pop-down word balloon, rather than giving me the shortlink I had expected, told me that Bit.ly My Twitter handle is there, with my face. Does the blue “x” close the whole thing or just my twitter handle? A big change.

Social and connective lock-in

When Twitter was experiencing downtime issues a few years ago, some individuals moved to Plurk, Identi.ca, or other services. But, in the end, the social lock-in of Twitter was sufficient to pull many back. Unfortunately, open connection-forming protocols that allow us to connect with others and share content are not as developed as the Facebook Connect/Twitter models.
