Her extensive experience heading up design at TiVo has given her a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver a great experience in a high technology product. At TiVo, we were fortunate that the team that designed the very first TiVo DVR realized they were making something revolutionary, and they wanted the interface to reflect that. Back in 1998 they created a list of mantras that they kept in mind during design. The same collaboration happens with design.

Robots are already designing and building their compatriots. Until then, the best advice we can give our children is to search wherever they can (and certainly beyond the four walls of the classroom) for a sustaining passion that excites and engages them and to not stop until they have found it. Many of the comments I received relate to the eternal debate over optimal incentive design, and whether it’s desirable (or even possible) to measure and reward effort vs. activities vs. outcomes. Another worry is that the poor content generated by the phoning it in strategy will clutter up the Intranet or Extranet, obscuring the good stuff and making it harder for people to navigate, search, etc. tools, but I’m not sure I buy that activity does correspond to value.

My goal is to have the user not know they are taking a course." Here''s the context: " Based on his other questions, Brian is looking to develop training for visitors to theme parks that will teach them about the park. As such, the learning objectives would be fairly low level knowledge about the park."

For example… Retargeting ads are based on your browsing habits, which can be telling of your historical intent based searches. That’s why I said “If I were actually the person Facebook advertised to…” Google is less privileged in that respect, but the nature of the help it provides (in search results, in guessing at locations we search for in Maps, and so on) makes their search results and ad placements less of a valley when they get uncanny.

” Let me point out that I understand that these things are much easier said then implemented, because most of the previously used tools had been designed around what was easy for the instructional designer. This is seemingly the key to all of the current disruption, that the developers and designers are no longer driving content creation, but the consumers and their learner requirements are.
