Social Media Planning and Evaluation for NGOs | Full Circle Associates

Nancy White

This topic is designed to give you some tools and ideas for including social media appropriately in your overall organizational strategic plan and to measure its effectiveness. Track how many times a blog post has been viewed (using your blog software or a tool like Google Analytics ).

Connective Knowledge and Open Resources

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

We had about 170 blogs created to support the course, and we aggregated these using RSS – content syndication supporting online learning. I was trying to get them to spot fallacies by recognizing them, by seeing signs that would remind them of common patterns of argument. The difference is that a cMOOC is designed as a network, as I described above, while an xMOOC is based on a central course site and content that will be followed by all students.

Interesting Information via eLearning Learning

Tony Karrer

Again, I'll be curious to see if people find patterns in this information. Ken Allan - Blogger in Middle-earth Ken talks about everything including some that come up for me Writing a Blog , Analytics , Communities of Practice , Photoshop , Pipes , Firefox , RSS. We've implemented a few features in the eLearning Learning Community. You can see the first feature by visiting the site and clicking around on terms.

Beyond Institutions Personal Learning in a Networked World

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

Thinking in Models: for Design, for Learning… A large part of this talk is about that change. We''re told there will be analytics and data-driven management. Models of how to do learning, learning design patterns: Grainne Conole has done a lot on this.

The Diminishment of Don Draper

Andy McAfee

Photo of Andrew McAfee Home Blog About RSS Andrew McAfees Blog The Business Impact of IT Tweet The Diminishment of Don Draper by Andrew McAfee on May 29, 2009 I am a huge fan of the TV series “ Mad Men ,&# which has aired for two seasons on AMC. Watching him, I was reminded of Cayce Pollard, the heroine of William Gibson ‘s novel Pattern Recognition. Each was shown a screen of three possible packaging designs and asked to select their favorite.

E-Learning Generations

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

Another key idea was the design of the gaming space itself.Early computer games (and many early arcade games) were designed likeprogrammed learning: they were like a flow chart, guiding you through a seriesof choices to a predetermined conclusion. You can begin to see a pattern developing here. To this day, the learningmanagement system is designed essentially to present content and supportdiscussion and activities around that content.

The Rise of MOOCs

Stephen Downes: Half an Hour

The software developed to support the course - called gRSShopper, written by myself - was designed to enable the use of open educational resources (OERs) and to aggregate student contributions nwritten using their own weblog environment (and later, discussion boards, Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, and more). I've been working with aggregators since the beginning of RSS and of course have been influenced here by the work of people like Dave Winer and Aaron Swartz, among many others.

Musings on “community management” Part 1 | Full Circle Associates

Nancy White

seeing the patterns of those posts then composing a response. A good community manager must be able to skip around, see patterns, scan the whole and then discern if and where to intervene in the system. Community requires the emotional intelligence from the heart side and the analytical/strategic and content skills from the head side. Second, I think that multi-membership, head-and-heart, and network sensibilities are more important than pattern recognition scores.
