We’re in an inflection point, where we have mainstream adoption, different platform designs, and moving beyond digitizing the traditional classroom. First there was the open source movement (Moodle and Sakai). Another trend - maybe not the way it should be, but it’s where the data point: open source peaked in 2013 at about 34% and since then it has begun to drop. The big thing is data access; analytics is more secondary.

I also needed to prove that the web could be used for online learning, so I took a guide I had created for my Grande Prairie students, Stephen's Guide to the Logical Fallacies , and published it on my website, openly licensed, free for all to use (the license was based on similar open licensing I had seen in the MUD community).
