Reciprocity: The Word of 2011

Dan Pontefract

I’d like to propose that 2011 be about reciprocity. My 2011 is going to start first with a simple term known as ‘reciprocity’.

Reflections 2011

Clark Quinn

On this, the shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere, it seems like a good time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the coming one. It’s certainly been an interesting year, and a good one personally. I feel there are lots of reasons to hope for good things to be coming too. The opportunities are big. First of all, mobile really has taken off.

2011 Predictions

Clark Quinn

For the annual eLearn Mag predictions, this year I wrote: I think we’ll see some important, but subtle, trends. Deeper uses of technology are going to surface: more data-driven interactions, complemented by both more structured content and more semantics. These trends are precursors to some very interesting nascent capabilities, essentially web 3.0: system-generated content.

Learning Analytics 2011: Reflections

George Siemens

On Feb 28-Mar 1 a group of 100 researchers, administrators, and academics (from 12 countries) converged in Banff, Alberta for the 1st International Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge. Rather cold weather, at times exceeding -30C, drove most of the activities indoors. It was one of the most enjoyable conferences I’ve ever attended. We had an outstanding conference program (.pdf). Small conferences are great for conversations.

2011: Integration

Harold Jarche

I was asked to make some predictions for 2011 but missed the deadline. The big idea that is catching on and may take shape in 2011 is the integration of organizational support. Perhaps in 2011 these departments will wake up and start talking to other. Instead of predictions, I think there are some trends that may cross the chasm this year. This follows on a post I wrote a year ago that included this table: (2009). Innovators. Early Adopters. Crossing the Chasm. Technology.

DevLearn 2011 Takeaways & Reflection

Jay Cross

Harold, Jane, Charles, Clark, and I led a session this morning that recapped people’s DevLearn experience. We used a minute of silence to clear our heads of the noise of overstimulation. Then we focused on how what we’d learned in the last few days would change our behavior. This video was one of several catalysts for our conversation: We reviewed summary points from our associate Paul Simbeck-Hampson who attended DevLearn virtually, from Bavaria.
