I thought I'd kick off this year by posting a series of posts on topics related to tools and methods for work and learning. I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? What should be in your tool set? What are the most important methods to adopt in addition to the tools? Should twitter be part of your tool set? But hopefully 2009 will be the year when that begins to change.

I was just asked about trends in open source for eLearning and particularly open source eLearning tools. Probably one of the better sources on this is Jane Hart’s Instructional Tools Directory. You can find a long list of tools broken into authoring tools, games/simulations, quiz/test tools, social media, delivery platforms, tracking and whether they support mobile.

While the earliest blogs were created by hand, blogging becam widely popular with the advent of blog authoring tools. Blog authors may also post a list of blogs they frequently read; this list is known as a ‘ blogroll ’. Most uses of blogs in the classroom began with the instructor using blogs to post class information such as lists of readings and assignment deadlines. In the course of tracking down the sources of unlicensed distribution, they found many things, including the copying of his column to alt.fan.dave_barry on usenet; a 2000-person strong mailing list also reading pirated versions; and a teenager in the Midwest who was doing some of the copying himself, because he loved Barry’s work so much he wanted everybody to be able to read it. There are some very cool new features especially our hot list feature coming out soon on the eLearning Learning Content Community. Thus it belongs in both a best of list and a hot list. This is going to take some work to get it right, but we believe it will help to highlight various hot list content. We are particularly excited that this capability will soon allow us to have a weekly post that highlights hot list for the week.

12 eLearning Predictions for 2009

In my post, 2008 2009 - written in December 2008, I looked at how well I did in those predictions, and my results were pretty good, not perfect. tools. Strategies will move much slower than organizations who adopt easy to use tools and make tactical use of these tools. Social learning solutions like social homework help provided by Cramster ; CampusBug , Grockit , TutorVista , EduFire , English Cafe , and the list goes on and on. Articulate has a great tool set.

Among other things, the Center maintains a list of the Top 100 Tools for Learning. The list compiles the Top 10 lists of 195 learning professionals. Two years back, the most popular tools were Firefox, Delicious, Google Search, Skype, and PowerPoint. Currently, the top tools are Twitter, Delicious, Google Reader, Google Docs, and SlideShare. Continutaion of IMS 2009 in Montreal blog coverage. You need simpler tools and methods. It runs for four years ending November 2009. So we got new tools for running learning designs. Within the application, you query a Wookie server, which displays a list fo the widgets available. Question: in Moodle, how do you control the flow within the activity The tool brought into LAMS is basically the tool that does the workflow control.

I'm hoping you can help a reader with thoughts and likely help others of us … A medium size nonprofit and lobbying organization is working on a designing and creating a social / work network for experts, students, volunteers who are willing to help through campaigning, lobby, sharing knowledge, working on solutions (writing documents). They currently don't have any kind of solution.
